U.S. Sen John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who has been outspoken in his desire to see New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez expelled from Congress, endorsed one of Menendez’s primary opponents on Thursday, along with six members of Pennsylvania’s U.S. House delegation.

“I am incredibly proud to endorse Andy Kim for Senate. And I feel very secure knowing that he has no gold bars underneath his mattress and won’t ever be accused of being a foreign agent for Egypt or Qatar,” Fetterman said in a statement.

Democratic Reps. Brendan Boyle (2nd District), Madeleine Dean (4th District), Dwight Evans (3rd District), Chrissy Houlahan (6th District), Mary Gay Scanlon (5th District), and Susan Wild (7th District) said in a joint statement they were also endorsing Kim.

The news of the endorsements was first reported by the New York Times.

Menendez faces numerous corruption charges, including conspiracies to commit bribery, honest services fraud, and extortion under the color of official right. He is also accused of acting as a foreign agent for both Egypt and Qatar.

Fetterman was the first senator to call for Menendez to step down, and when Menendez refused, Fetterman called for his expulsion. He questioned why Congress could justify expelling former Rep. George Santos of New York, but not Menendez. Fetterman’s campaign paid $343.20.for Santos to record a video message to Menendez on the Cameo social platform.

Menendez has denied any wrongdoing and rejected calls to resign, which Kim has said motivated him to seek the office. Menendez has not said whether he plans to seek a fourth term.

Kim said in a statement he was “honored and deeply humbled” to receive Fetterman’s endorsement
